absurdities
I hope everyone had nice holidays! Well, I spent them at the North Sea with my parents and my brother, as almost every year. As my brother and I had to go back (to work) earlier than my parents, we took the train on saturday. Well, as trains are not that cheap in Germany, we tried to find out the cheapest solution (without using the weekend ticket because that would also be the slowest one). Well, here it is: if you have to go from A to B with to people and you have the Bahncard 25 (which gives you a 25% discount), then don't book a one way ticket, book a round trip. That can be cheaper. Really. Well, there has to be a so-called Sparpreis available, but if it is, then booking any return trip with you intended one way ride is cheaper than only the one way ride. And so we paid 92.20 euros instead of 123, isn't that a deal? And maybe we can even sell the way back, or I just go to Hamburg or so for fun.

without (many) words
Written on a truck parking next to our institute today
OK, a short translation: KLUMPE Our service We suck and blow: Well, the last line could also read as: We draw and blow (I think that version would be more accurate, but in German the words are the same)

fed up with cookies
Just trying another web browser. Really annoying: every site I open asks me about 4 or 5 cookies it wants to set. Ah, that sucks so much. I mean, cookies can help keeping your login or so, but nowadays they really seem to be everywhere. My favs are "*.ivwbox.de" and "ad.*" or "*.adserv.*. Yep, that makes the internet more and more unusuable for people who want some control of what's happening. But that control on the other hand really seems to be necessary!

gimme a smile!
Is that German, or is that something general? Today was a beautiful sunny December day, and on my way to the swimming pool I walked around the Aasee a bit, because I wanted to enjoy the sun. Of course, many people had the same idea and so a lot of others were walkting towards me. Looking at their faces, I was more than astounded ... despite the very nice day (the sun was not out for a week or more) most of them were not smiling, most faces seemed annoyed, unhappy or worse; and sometimes also the sound of the voices sounded complaining. Of course I saw some smiles ... but that was a clear minority. Well, anyway, I enjoyed the walk, and I enjoyed the emptiness of the pool - must be connected to the weather.
